Issue #9
Dr Atkins Diet Center (sometimes spelt Dr Aktins Diet Center)
Today we return our attention to considering the benefits of low-fat
diets versus low-carb diets supported by a Dr Atkins diet center (or Dr
Aktins diet center).
As you probably know, people on the ever popular
Slim for
Life program have the choice of following a low-fat or low-carb
approach. Slim for Life is actually flexible enough to allow for
either, so those following the program don't need to make one choice and
potentially miss out.
Low-Fat Diets
This is the popular choice by virtually all "main stream" dieticians.
It has the advantage that low-fat diets are actually "good for you", even
putting aside the weight loss issue. Low fat, low cholesterol, low
triglyceride diets mean a health heart, and healthy arteries. These
are important issues for longevity.
However, low-fat doesn't mean that you'll lose weight. This may
come as a huge surprise to most dieters. You can eat a low-fat
diet, and actually put on weight. The reason? Many "low-fat"
products replace the fat with higher levels of sugar. So the energy
content of the food can be just as high as its full-fat cousin.
Low-Carb Diets
Low-carb diets are shunned by "main stream" dieticians simply because
they pay little attention to keeping fats at a "healthy" level.
However, a low-carb diet is probably ideal for diabetics, as they base
their programs on the glycemic index of foods, exactly what diabetics
need to monitor and consider whenever they eat.
Low-carb diets can be effective, but you can also put weight on while
following a low-carb diet, if the total amount of energy you consume
during a meal is in excess of the energy your body burns.
As an example, someone who eats nothing but fatty meat - which has a low
glycemic index, will put on weight if they eat meat in large quantities.
Even your personal experience will make this evident.
