The amusing tale of oatmeal cookies
The fact that oatmeal cookies are much more commonly requested than
virtually any other recipe is indeed a curious detail. Why not
chocolate chip cookies? Why not peanut butter cookies?
The absolute fascination that our readers have with oatmeal cookies in
particular stems from the fact that the afore mentioned search engine
actually gives "oatmeal cookies" as an example of how to form a search
string. It's a standard part of the search engine software, and the
help page uses a throw away phrase as an example. Searchers have
latched onto this example, and are searching for these legendary cookies
in droves!
So to keep all of you oatmeal cookies fans delighted, we have added a
recipe for this much sought after dish.
Oatmeal Cookies
Ingredients
1 cup margarine
1 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup white sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup white flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
2 1/2 cups rolled oats
1 cup raisins
1 cup chopped walnuts
Directions
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease the cookie
sheets. In a large bowl, cream together the margarine, white sugar and
brown sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, then
stir in the vanilla extract. Combine the flour, baking soda, salt and
cinnamon, and stir into the creamed mixture. Fold in the oatmeal, raisins
and walnuts. Drop by rounded spoonfuls onto the prepared cookie sheet.
Bake for 8 to 10 minutes in a preheated oven. Allow the cookies to cool
on baking sheet for 5 minutes before removing to a wire rack to cool
completely.
