Xenical

We probe almost ever conceivable topic a weight loser could possibly imagine.  After all, enquiring minds want to know!  But recently, we've received much mail asking about various diet pills.  Do they work?  Are they safe?  So to continue our series on this topic, let's place another product under the microscope.

Today we examine Xenical.

What is Xenical?

Xenical is a brand name diet pill, having the active ingredient orlistat.

How does Xenical work?

Xenical works in your intestines, where it blocks some of the fat you eat from being absorbed. This undigested fat is then eliminated in your bowel movements.

Does Xenical replace the need for dieting?

The answer is no.  According to the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) Xenical must be used with a reduced calorie diet.  In other words, you still need to be following a weight loss program or diet.  So for those who thought Xenical might be an easy solution replacing the normal hard work of losing weight, sorry, but that won't happen.

For how long does the effect of Xenical last?

Only while you still are taking the product.  So in other words, taking Xenical won't keep you thin.  Not only do you still have diet, but you'd need to take Xenical for the rest of your life.  Otherwise, any effects the product might have, stop as soon as you stop taking the product.

Known Problems with Xenical

According to the FDA, Xenical can

  • be dangerous for anyone with a gallbladder weakness

  • significantly reduce your ability to absorb many vitamins from your food, which may, in turn, lead to health problems

  • have a significant affect on some people's blood sugar levels

The Main Problem with Xenical

Our astute readers may have noticed that the fat that Xenical blocks passes out through your bowel.  And herein lies a nasty side effect.

Users of Xenical typically experience

  • diarrhea

  • oil spotting on their under wear

  • significant gas or flatulence

  • oily discharges through their anus

  • urgent need to have a bowel movement

  • increased number of bowel movements

  • inability to control bowel movements

So in short, Xenical can, and does, create havoc with your bowels, creating some pretty messy and potentially embarrassing situations.  We'll leave the detail of this strictly to the imagination of the reader.
