Chloe Stone Speaks
Out
WLI: Chloe, thanks for you time. You've
been keeping a journal of your struggle with your weight.
Chloe: Yes, I
have. I've always been someone who has been in control of my life,
but when I caught a reflection of myself in a mirror, what I saw staring
back at me looked even worse than my mother! Well, you can imagine
that my first reaction was just to cry. But when I eventually
pulled myself together, I thought I needed to track what was happening
to me. So that was the beginnings of my journal. It first
started as handwritten notes in an exercise book, but eventually became
my own web site.
WLI: How did you first approach losing weight?
Chloe: Well, my first
approach wasn't so much an approach, as it was just asking around my
friends and
trying the first thing recommended to me.
WLI: Was that a weight loss program? And
how successful was it?
Chloe: Yes, I started on
one of the popular commercial diets where you attended meetings and
counted food intake. When I started, I weighed in at 198 pounds, which
was far too heavy for my frame. I went along to their meetings,
and, I must admit, felt pretty intimidated by the whole experience.
I found the meetings were run by people who looked like they needed to
lose more weight than I did.
WLI: What was your next step?
Chloe: Well, I pretty much
gave that program up as a bad joke. I saw another popular diet
program on television that provided pre-packaged food every week.
I felt that, this time, I would be able to give the program a really
good go. I managed to stick to it for a couple of month, but I
found the food they provided tasteless, and the tiny portion sizes left
me feeling starved. But that didn't work either. I couldn't
stick to it. By the time I gave up the program, I actually weighed
more than when I had started.
WLI:
How did you discover Weight Loss International?
Chloe: OK, well we were
discussing dieting at work one day, and a number of my colleagues told
me they were on this "Slim for Life"
program and had found it quite successful. So I signed up for it
via the old web site, and had the whole program delivered to me in
around 2 or 3 hours. (By the way, your new web site looks quite
amazing).
WLI: And what was your experience with Slim
for Life?
Chloe: Oh, quite different.
The whole program looked fresh, and professional. What did
surprise me, actually, was the amount of information Weight Loss
International was
actually
giving me. As in, the program taught me the complete theory behind
losing weight, so by the time I'd been on the program for a few months,
I actually felt I had a pretty good understanding of exactly where I'd
gone wrong in the past. Now, this was quite different to what I'd
experienced in the past. The other commercial diets keep their
"weight loss theory" pretty close to their chest, so you follow their
routines step-by-step, but you don't actually come away knowing anything
more about how to keep the weight off than you knew originally.
WLI: What were the best points of Slim for
Life?
Chloe: Well besides
skilling you up on exactly how to lose weight, like I said, I think
maybe the first pleasant surprise was the price. My original diet
was costing me about $600 a year, and the other one was about $75 /
week. So Slim for Life just had a once off upfront fee which was a
fraction of that. So I knew right from the start what my total
outlay was.
WLI: Have you discussed the program with other
people?
Chloe: I sure have.
Originally, there were about 8 girls at my office doing Slim for
Life. Then when I joined up, I did the program with my daughter,
Jill. And even now, since I've been running my web site about
losing weight, everyday I get new e-mails from people who have been
trying other diets or who are currently on Slim for Life. So, you
could say I now have a whole dieting network.
WLI: And what about cakes and chocolate?
Have you given those up?
Chloe: Er, no. But I
haven't needed to. With Weight Loss International I've actually
learned how to incorporate chocolate back into my diet in healthy
amounts, so that it doesn't make me fat. You see, it's all about
having a balanced eating approach. Which is good, because I don't
feel deprived. There's no way I could stick to a low-fat "lettuce
and mung beans" type diet. It's just not in me. So yeah,
I've learned I don't need to.
WLI: Finally, have you managed to keep the
weight off?
Chloe: Well, considering
this morning I weighed 128 pounds, I'd say most definitely. I've
managed to stay around that weight, now, for about four years. And
these days, I don't really feel like I'm dieting, as such. I just
follow the "healthy" ideas which the program originally taught me, and
it's all become second nature to me. And I can still go out with
the girls for a steak and bourbon every Wednesday, and know that
because, the rest of my lifestyle is so good, it's not really going to
have much of an effect on me. I'm actually pretty happy.
